“General” Willis Carver (1868-1898) was a professional Little Person who was generally exhibited alongside his mother, Madame Carver, a professional “Fat Lady”. Hailing from the town of Beloit (either Wisconsin or Kansas, both have been proposed), Carver joined the shows starting at around age 12. He and his mom performed with the circuses of Dan Rice, Van Amburgh, Sells Brothers, Pullman and Hamilton, and also dime museums such as Kohl and Middleton’s in Chicago, and Morris and Hickman’s on the Bowery in New York City.
