Yes! Yiddish cinema was a thing! I’d have already been interested in today’s release of the new Blu-Ray of The Jewish Soul: Classics of Yiddish Cinema by Kino Lorber, but am doubly so now I know it features intertitle translations and commentary by Allan Lewis Rickman of A Serious Man, Tevye Served Raw, and Boardwalk Empire. In fact, a version of Tevya (sic), as well as The Dybbuk, Jewish King Lear, and American Matchmaker are among the ten films offered on the disk. More info and ordering here.
