Fatty and Mabel at the San Diego Exposition

Today marks the anniversary of the release date of the Keystone comedy Fatty and Mabel at the San Diego Exposition, starring Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, and Mabel Normand.

This is one of those Keystones (perhaps one of the last of the them) where the cast and crew just showed up at a live event and started filming an improvised comedy. Fatty and Mabel play a married couple who visit the expo, rent a motorized cart and start sight seeing. Unfortunately the sights Fatty wants to see consist of other women, especially an exhibition of hula dancers. Before day is done, the pair are chased right out of the festival by a combination of jealous husbands, hula dancers and cops.
