Canadian vaudevillians and theatrical figures included May Irwin, Gertrude Hoffman, Beatrice Lillie, Ben Blue, Fifi D’Orsay, James Doyle (of Doyle and Dixon), Marie Dressler, Vernon Castle, Ned Sparks, Walter Huston, Eva Tanguay, McKee Rankin and Jimi Hendrix’s grandparents!
P.T. Barnum’s giantess Anna Swan was from Canada, as were the Dionne Quintuplets, and circus impresario Al G. Barnes, and movie stars Mack Sennett, Marie Prevost, Mary Pickford, Fay Wray, Florence Lawrence, Ruby Keeler, Dell Henderson, Del Lord , Peggy Cartwright, Douglas Dumbrille, and of course Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians.
Modern Canadian show biz figures we have written about have included Wayne and Shuster, Sid and Marty Krofft, Doug Henning, Lorne Michaels, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, Andrea Martin, Christopher Guest and John Candy.
