Today is the birthday of the great visionary inventor Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), the mind behind AC electrical distribution, radio (including remote control), radar, x-rays, and futuristic schemes for wireless long distance power transmission, among hundreds of other things. The story of Tesla and his crazy, lightning producing Wardenclyff Tower played a big part in my 1996 noir radio play Cold Fire, which I later presented at Joe’s Pub, the Brick, and for WFMU radio.
