There have been many variations on Neil Simon’s successful Odd Couple formula, most of them perpetrated by Neil Simon, who knows a good thing when he cashes it in. There was the female Odd Couple starring Rita Moreno and Sally Struthers. There was the black Odd Couple starring Ron Glass and Demond Wilson. And let’s not forget the senior citizen Odd Couple in 1993 featuring the stars of the original sit-com Jack Klugman and Tony Randall.
But perhaps you have forgotten the all-animal version of The Odd Couple? The animated Saturday morning cartoon The Oddball Couple ran from 1975 through 1977, and featured the voices of Frank Nelson as Spiffy (a neatnik cat), and Paul Winchell as Fleabag, his messy dog room-mate. I was between the ages of ten and twelve when these originally aired and, as you can imagine, an avid and loyal viewer:
DESPERATELY seeking any episodes of this for a book I’m writing. No copies seem to exist.
