Today is the birthday of Star of Vaudeville #319: Ma Rainey (for my full article on this important performer go here). Here she is in a 1925 recording of that old blues standard “See See Rider” along with an obscure sideman known as Louis Armstrong.

To find out about  the history of vaudeville, consult No Applause, Just Throw Money: The Book That Made Vaudeville Famous, available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and wherever nutty books are sold.
