Today is the birthday of the amazing folk and country music genius Arthel “Doc” Watson (1923-2012). Blind since the age of one, the North Carolina native played just about every relevant instrument you’d care to name. He also possessed what I consider an extremely pleasant singing voice. Here he is doing an impromptu version of the traditional song “John Hardy” and a couple of other tunes along with banjoist Earl Scruggs of Flatt & Scruggs, and a ragtag collection of their sons. The clip is from 1972. Damn, this already made my day!
