Herschel Henlere: “Kismet”, etc.

Herschel Henlere (born this day in 1890) wrote songs (such as the famous one above), was an accompanist for the likes of Anna Held and others, and had his own big time novelty piano act starting in the nineteen-teens. In 1921 he moved to London and became a music hall mainstay for the duration. He passed away in 1968.
