The impeccably curated NY Clown Theatre Festival opens its 2011 edition at the Brick Theater tonight, this time in a smaller version that pits quality over quantity, although I must say for something that’s supposed to be smaller, this looks pretty big and ambitious to me. Some of the stratosphere of the clown world is associated with this year’s edition. What should you see? Practically everything, but I’ll cherry pick a few to save you time!
* Sept 24-25: Wing-Man: Starring Mark Gindick of the recent PBS show Circus (and, naturally Big Apple Circus), and directed by David Shiner (Fool Moon etc etc etc) and Barry Lubin (a.k.a. Big Apple Circus’s “Grandma”)
* Sept 22-23: Joel Jeske (whom I’ve written about here and here) stars in I Have Never Done This Before. Oh, but he has! He has!
* Sept 8-11: Flocked starring festival co-founder and curator and tireless clown genius Audrey Crabtree and Gabriella Munoz (see background on her here), and directed by the equally stellar Hilary Chaplain
* Sept 16: Comedy Shorts: Clowns on Film. The title says it all. Hosted by Crabtree and John Towsen
* Sept 21: A clown cabaret hosted by Crabtree and festival co-curator Robert Honeywell
* TONIGHT! Clown cabaret, featuring the hilarious Leroy Sisters, who starred in my recent American Vaudeville Theatre 15th Anniversary ExTRAVaganza
* And a lot more, go here for the full details.
If I had any actual money (as well as a driver’s licence and a car) I would totally be there!
