Adah Isaacs Mencken

Today is the birthday of Miss Adah Isaacs Mencken (1835-1868), one of the most famous women (in the world) of her day, and now ignobly forgotten. I have a soft spot for the forgotten, especially when they also happen to be crazy fame-hounds, so I’m currently working on a play about her which, if all goes according to plan will be on the boards next year. Meantime, if you’d like to read more about her, check out my earlier post here.
