When I was p.r. director at New-York Historical Society, I got to know the New York Times society photographer Bill Cunningham quite well; he was very generous about covering our various galas and openings. And I thought he also knew me…but I realize in retrospect that that was just his extraordinarily gracious manner, a way he has of making everybody feel comfortable , confident and important — requisite skills in his line of work. He is now the richly deserved subject of a new documentary that shows us this very democratic paparazzo at work, making everybody — including stars — feel like stars. Bill Cunningham’s New York will be playing at Film Forum through March 29. For full details go here.
