Higher Pictures presents the first New York exhibition of Circus Days by Jill Freedman. The show will include over twenty vintage gelatin silver prints made and printed by the artist.
In 1971, with a borrowed white Volkswagen bus, Jill Freedman joined the Clyde Beatty-Cole Brothers Circus. She was on the move every night but two, for two months, photographing two shows a day and one show each Sunday. Seven weeks of one night stands’. Freedman traveled with the circus through New York, Massachusetts, parts of New Jersey, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Ohio to make her art.
