Fabian: Turn Muh Loose
Today is the birthday of teen idol “Fabian” (b. 1943.) A sort of craven record company attempt to cash in on the Elvis craze (and a fairly successful one), I still can’t help thinking of Fabian as a sort of Elvis parody, no more creditable as a rocker than, say, Conrad Birdie. In 1959 it was revealed that he couldn’t even sing his payola-ordained hits without assistance; they were electronically altered to make them more listenable. This American Bandstand clip makes that charge all the more believable. “Turn Muh Loose”? You got it, Jack! There’s the door!
